BTW, I think the choice of the word "skirt" is unfortunate, at least if the intent is to describe the costume portrayed in King of Dragon Pass. An overdress isn't what I think of when I hear the word "skirt" (though admittedly "overdress" isn't commonly used).

For those who haven't played KoDP, think of the Viking-style overdress held up by two turtle brooches, a bit like an apron that starts at the shoulders. There are probably illustrations at the A Sharp web site.

Well, yes. Which is why she dresses like one. Also. She is both. A woman warrior, you might say. Capable of being both. In all ways that pertain to being a woman or to a warrior.
