 From what I've seen of Exalted, I always thought it might be a good HQ conversion project as well.

I think the biggest mistake many people make when converting things is getting bogged down in the mechanical progression of powers that the previous system has. "crunch" makes a section feel important, but I think often adds complexity for nor real gain into HQ. (see the magic debates on Glorantha)

 From what I understand of Exalted, the PCs are all supposed to be Solars, but there are a bunch of these Exalted peoples. Solars, Lunars, Sidereals, and some sort of death people?

Do all of each group have the same powers or are there subdivisions/paths of mastery or what?

The first stab would be figuring out what a keyword: Solar would mean, and then what else might need to be broken down further.

If you can explain the story logic behind the powers and divisions, then I'll bet we can come up with an HQ2 conversion fairly easily.
