Everybody but Balazarings can use oil lamps, I think. Lamps were used in ancient egypt, mesopotamia and in some of the late stone age archeological digs.

The Innuit have seal-oil lamps, for example (though their culture is frighteningly techical -- their bows and much of their material are apparently derived from mongol-style composite bows which are _extremely_ sophisiticated). Tech levels vary, usually dependant on that culture's focus.

Some are pottery, some are bone, some are bronze and carved with intricate figures (lets just say that the wick on the roman bronze lamp *I* have is, er, well, perverse.
