Take that as a mythical statement about aligning the stead to the Sacred Order as much as a practical description. Lots of tribal folk have such schemas for aligning their villages etc. with cosmological principles through directions, but its usually relative to other features within the village rather than 'absolute' north, south etc. Obviously the landscape itself, shadows, hills and prevailing winds will all affect placement.

Heortling examples include chieftain's door to Kero Finn (that at least should be reasonable fixed) , humakti to the west, and Uroxi beyond the circle. Those with Medicine Wheel or (gasp) feng shui inclinations could have a fun time building up 'cosmic' stead layouts based on the Storm realm maps in TR. As above, so below.
