Yes, that's what our Humakti did, but with the Ghost Slaying Sword, he was able to attach the ghosts with his Close Combat (at a penalty I can't remember). Of course, the Lay Ghost would have worked equally well -- perhaps better perhaps because the Newt Father spirits are specifically ghosts.
