But I mean it's hard to imagine a geas that the red emperor could force Harshaltar to break. That's all I meant. Killing the Emperor must have been a high priority to the Household of Death, so the geases they took will not have anything restrictive of that.

I'm afraid it doesn't. I know the mechanism, but for the life of me I can't imagine a geas of Harlsatar that the Emperor could trick him to break during their fight.
