    So long as they do not interfere with his wizardly duties, there is no problem. Being a wizard is a position of great responsibility, however, and your architect-wizard has to spend a lot of time practicing his art for the good of his country. Time spend practicing with his sword does not count towards the 50% time commitment he must make as a wizard, but designing and building palaces and castles would.

   Of course, if he's a grand knight (i.e. a sorcerer-knight), then practicing his sword skills *is* part of his job.
