Now I have to add an extra layer "chrome" by having the ritual performed by dwarf sailors who are performing it purely mechanically as it has been shown to work. The city of Gemborg has stolen the ritual from humans so most of it is in a language the sailors don't understand anyway.
I think the Silver caste are working on determining "why" the ritual works so they can strip it down to its bare essentials.
"Captain Pickaxe, you are instructed to replace the bucket of olive oil with this vial of mineral oil. Our experts are convinced that this will have no effect on the efficacy of the process."
