Maybe good for him, but not for the latest round of nobles, power grabbers, rebels, exploiters and opportunists. It is the one final and definitive proof. If you can do it, you are Emperor. If you can't (and many more have failed that the canon shows) then you are not emperor. He does so to prove it, and obtain the benefits from having done so (like a new Mantle of Antirius.) This is taken as proof (by some factional philosophies) that he is a different being. And note that he always takes the Eleventh Test, too.

The canons certainly agree with you, but even the TFS documents come pretty close, don't they?
The Empire has power groups within it that have different ideas of how to provide the next Emperor, and whether or not the whole Masks of the Emperor since the Fourth Wane is not a sham. The Hero Wars are going to let each faction thrust forth their candidate and prove who is right. Such is essentially a major Lunar Story Arc in the Hero Wars that is going to come after SS eats the Emperor in 1648 (KoS p 34).
