IMO the Orlanthi refer to daimones as spirits.
Spirit is a perfectly good English word, so it's the best translation. Less common words would be used for the more rare Otherworld creatures that shamans or sorcerers deal with.
If the average Orlanthi even distinguishes -- Otherworld creatures are the domain of god-talkers and spirit-talkers, and they're all called spirits. Just as I call things animals and let the specialists worry about whether they're ungulates or artiodactyls.

Yes, this is the sort of word Heortling would use to talk about what shamans deal with -- a spirit from somewhere else. I.e. not a spirit from the God Plane.
