So it isn't just us.... No, not hating Yanks. Using the word a different way from the original. To most Brits, and it seems to Ozzies, "Yank" means "American". I only learnt about a distinction between types of Yank when my darling husband got interested in the American Civil War. *Now* I know what a Yank is. He shoots them with his Big Gun. (Artillery, not infantry. Bigger bangs. Happier little boys.)
