Here in the states, LOTR was published as three books from the very beginning. The only single-volume edition that was generally available for years was an expensive red leather (or pseudo-leather, I can't recall) hard bound volume. I had seen it in the late 60s and early 70s at friends' houses, but never read it until I was about 15 years old in 1975 or 76. To me, "The Trilogy" will probably always be associated with LOTR, in spite of the slew of trilogies that came afterwards. I never thought of the Star wars movies as a trilogy, probably because it wasn't marketed that way in the beginning.

Always choose the option that'll most likely blow up in your own face. You never know when a tribe of werebears is going to want to skin you alive, for instance. Those are the Munchausenesque moments you can brag about over beer for years.

Of course, sometimes you get bitten by vampires infected with bubonic plague, but on the whole, you have a great time.
