You're not wrong there, Jeff. I think it derives (in part) from the inability of Southern (English) folk to swear properly, and their attempts to hide such (and also their being thieving bastards). You know that when you use the most reviled swearwords in the English language, and it comes off as a rather effeminate 'facking kant', you have problems.

Why, even a plain Northern 'bastard' or 'pillock' -- without recourse to a single 'fooking twat' -- said with true venom by a member of the Trans- or Cispennine Proletariat, trumps Southern attempts at rudeness any day of the week.

I applaud Dick van Dyke for massacring the cockney accent, showing it the disrespect it deserves. I'll not hear a bad word said about Dick and Barry van Dyke, stalwart thespians of the televisual arts.
