After seeing the Narnia film, a friend reminded me of an old adventure he ran, and which I helped out on, c. 1997. The idea was that the children, rather than being ponces from Middle England, came from abused backgrounds in the shitholes of the world. At least one was escaping a Sao Paolo death squad (we didn't know Portuguese, so improvised in Spanish).
I don't recall Mr Beaver (I think that might have been me, but I was drunk) making the children play Russian Roulette in his lodge, but I was told it happened.
