I think all of this was born the day that Orlanth got split down into subcults with HeroWars. Before that inherent sexism was campaign/ game centric rather than explicitly Glorantha-centric. So in one game you had female warrior humakti, Orlanth worshippers and wotnot. Now Orlanth is a boys fraternity and Ernalda is for girls.

I think John is right on and I wish I had just an iota of his articulation.

And I don't think Vinga is too shiny at all. In fact it took me a while to get used to this new exclusive type Herotling society presented in HeroWars. The new vinga idea really is a bridge too far, for me at least.
