Both are restrictions. An initiate of Nandan cannot be part of the war fyrd (although he can support the fyrd). An initiate of Vinga must be part of the fyrd.

A Vingan is a warrior. She fights for her clan. She isn't likely to be a part time fighter, but a full-time combat specialist. Most of the restrictions she is going to have flow from that fact - she is in all likelihood going to be an armed retainer of a king, chief or other noble. And armed retrainers don't get maternity leave. They don't get to skip campaigning because you are eight months pregnant. Most chieftains or nobles don't have the wealth to support a professional killer that can't kill because she is pregnant or has a small child. Religiously, initiation to Vinga doesn't prepare a woman for childbirth or protect the pregnancy. That's Womens Magic, and Vinga has chosen to stay with her Father and not go with the Women to learn Ernalda's Secrets.

Sure player characters can do differently. They can always act in odd and weird ways.

Jeff

Note: I have not said Vingans are lesbians. However, if you weren't interested in having sex with men in the first place, it is a lot easier to avoid the complications of having had sex with men. And that is the source of Vingans are Lesbians thread.
