This rules matter/ do not matter debate is quite interesting. What it reveals is not the answer to the question, but rather the preferred gaming style of the respondents.

Glorantha was 'fitted' to Runequest. The system came first.

Heroquest came as a way of modelling Glorantha, and all of its facets, and scales.

And actually Heroquest is a bit of a cheat as Heroquest is a system that can be used to model absolutely any genre or game you choose to mention, with very little modification of the native rules. Rather you add rules to give the flavour of the genre.

BRP or Runequest systems do not model 'heroic dering do' at all really, there just aint the rules in it for that, unless you are very liberal with stat rolls perhaps. Its chronic simulationism with a small 's'.

The principal differences between the two have little to do about whether they model Glorantha better or not, but do they suit your playing style. Thats when you will decide whether you like them or not. I have run Heroquest for many folk at demo's and stuff, and some like the way it forces you to use your imagination to interperet the numbers, and others can't get passed the fact there are no armour tables! Its a matter of preference.

One thing that is a universal truth about this debate is whatever game you play there must be some rules. Whether you roll dice or not is really secondary to the argument.

FWIW I enjoy both systems, but get different things from both.
