I've had losses almost that bad, and victories almost
that weird.....a cattle raid was caught by the enemy
with my 7 thanes and 7 carls facing twice as many
thanes and pretty much all of their carls. I elected
to survive and evade, and ended up defeating them and
bringing home plunder far beyond what you normally
expect from a succesful cattle raid!
Now, one of my favorite heroquest effects is Elmal
Guards the Stead for the specific benefit that Elmal
helps when you are attacked. With that in place, I
seem pretty much imune to superior enemy magic, and
combined with "Steadfast" I routinely bloody the nose
of superior attacking forces. Still, I've never been
as badly outnumbered as you mentioned....that does
sound like the random element getting a bit
ridiculous.
