Hm, don't think I've had this happen (and I usually adpot anyone I can into my clans :)... Though it should probably be mentioned that if a new clan comes wandering and asks to cross your tula, if you offer to adopt them into your clan, you'll get a couple of new nobles, usually quite good ones.
