tribal helpers, quests & favors

I'd been under the impression that when you asked for tribal helpers for heroquests, it didn't cost you anything in the way of favors.

My current clan features exceptional magicians (started with three leaders with renowned magic, one died but the other two are both now heroic), but didn't seem to have a lot else going their way (its a "hard" game), so I decided early they would live and die by heroquesting. It took ten year and four quests to get to the tribe building stage. Although neither my diplomacy nor wealth was great, I did make sure to have some neighbours that owed me favors, and we built a nice little 5 clan tribe. Since then we've quested almost every single year (3 points in quests, heroic magicians on the ring, very high magic reserves and tribal helpers make most quests quite manageable).

Now, for the first time in "years" I looked at the favors owed list, and we are indebted to every other clan in the tribe. We gave some gifts that repaid a favor, and found we are still indebted to those clans, so we obviously owe multiple favors to each of them.

Do those requests for tribal helpers count as partial favors, or something like that?

I don't know if this makes a difference, but I've been playing most of this game on a laptop while away from home, and haven't downloaded the update onto it, so am running version 1.0 of the game.

Oh, and one more question, why doesn't it let me pick my Orlanthi clan lawspeaker as the Lhandor My helper for the Issaries quest? Because he has no combat skill?
