Long ago, when the Storm Tribe was starving, Ernalda went to the land of Ty
Kyora Tek. While she was there, bringing back Esra and Uralda, though, the
people were still hungry. No one knew what to do. Orlanth didn't know what
to do, because his wife wasn't there to give him advice. Elmal, Humakt,
Issaries, Lhankor Mhy, even Chalana Arroy, were mystified. Only Eurmal knew
what to do, but no one listened to him.
Eurmal went to Orlanth, and said "Let me try to feed the Storm Tribe while
Ernalda is gone," but Orlanth laughed at him, and Eurmal went away. Later,
Eurmal went to his stead, where he could be alone, and broke things because
he was angry.
The Storm Tribe starved and waited for Ernalda, but she didn't return.
Finally, Eurmal went to Orlanth again, and said "The people are starving.
Let me try to help! If I don't help, nothing is lost, but if I do help, they
will be happy." Orlanth agreed.
Eurmal went back to his stead and gorged for three days. When the people
grew angry with him, he said "We fast before doing things when there is
food, we gorge before doing things when there is not." The people were angry
with him, and asked him what he was going to do. He told them he was going
to plant carrots to feed them all, and they laughed so hard that all the
carrot seeds went flying. None of them were found until after Ernalda
returned, but they when they were found, there were many of them all over,
and the people were sorry they laughed at Eurmal.
