and the poor get poorer

I recently started a new game, again on the hard setting. The clan is friendly towards dragonkind. We happen not to have a trickster in the clan.

I didn't realize what a horrible combination this is. Without offending our ancestors, we couldn't kill the wyrm in the mountains, and without a trickster we couldn't take a part of its treasure, so we just made friends.

Soon, we found ourselves good locked. We have only one trading route, so we generate just enough profit in a year to pay for the upkeep on a few basic shrines. We cannot afford to either sacrifice anymore goods nor to build more shrines. We cannot even come close to building any fortifications beyond a watchtower. On the other hand, our best efforts at making trade routes keep getting rebuffed.

We periodically take some goods in raids, but since we have minimal war blessings, no fortifications, and can't even afford to hire many weaponthanes, we are lucky to break even over the course of a year.

I'm not complaining, and we will find a way out of this (oddly enough, we already know the myths for four heroquests, and we have four treasures, once we manage to succeed at the one or are forced to sell one of the other we will be in better shape, or maybe eventually we'll find something useful when we explore)....just warning that if you are starting a clan that is dragon friendly, if you find you don't have a trickster you are apt to be facing a real dilemna with of goods. Ditto of course if you are a dragon hater and you fail to kill the beast.
