I think I have seen David sighing about sheep on this list. I think more than one patch has increased the reproduction rate of sheep, but problem is that if you have a lot of shrines/temples and/or run into the sick sheep event, soon you might find yourself in a position where you expend more sheep than you get each year (the downward spiral). And since there is nothing that can help you rectify this (no blessing, no event, no heroquest) you will eventually end up with close to zero sheep.

Sadly no, half the pasture is reserved for the carls and the cows. Half the pasture (the bad part) is reserved for cottars and sheep. So very few sheep will have a lot of space. If you check your sheep in the village view screen (right before allocating magic) they will be "overcrowded" if the cattle are. This last might have been fixed in 1.5, but it sure made me confused when I saw all the open sheep pasture, yet my 50 sheep were overcrowded.
