SOTILLION Runes: Air, Heat, Moon Soltillion is the South Wind, Goddess of the Summer, Ease, and Comfort. She is sister to Telchur, the North Wind of Winter, and the unwilling mother of Hextor & Heironeous.. Cult in the World Sotillion is by far the lovliest of the Seasonal deities, more beautiful than even Atroa, the goddess of fertility. In the ancient past, she knew many suitors, but her brother Erythnul, who had long lusted after his sister, first raped her, then held her prisoner until she bore him a child, Hextor. Shortly after Erythnul took his son away, Sotillion bore a second child, whom she named Heironeous. Though she loved him, the memories of her incarceration wore heavy upon her, so she sent him to be raised alongside her sister Wenta's son, Pholtus. Sotillion is generally worshipped in a propitary way, by those seeking to escape the blistering heat of summer, rather than seeking to invoke her fires. Lay Membership Requirements: Sotillion's cult attracts few lay worshippers out of season, but as temperatures climb each summer, her temples fill to capacity with those seeking relief from the heat..Skills taught by the cult include: Swim, Throw, Sing, First Aid, and Ceremony. (Women in this cult are also tutored in Martial Arts, as the priestesses of Sotillion seek to defend women from assaults similar to those suffered by their goddess). Initiate Membership Requirements: Standard. Initiates of Sotillion are taught to weild the powers of their goddess, that of Heat, Passion, and Disorder. Spirit Magic: Demoralize, Ignite, Mobility, Shimmer Priesthood Requirements: Standard. Priests of Sotillion serve their communities in peace by providing places where worshippers can escape from the heat of summer, and in war by bringing the force of their goddess against their enemies. Virtues for Sotillion include Calm, Energetic, Joyous, Pragmatic, and Vengeful. Common Divine Magic: all Special Divine Magic: Cool Area, Shield of Fire, Wither Crops Associated Gods Velnius: provides Command Sylph *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Jul 1998 23:13:02 -0400 From: Tal Meta Subject: Re: [RQ-RULES] Roolz .. seeking game Al Harrison wrote: > > Hi. Well, IMC it's certainly possible to do all three, but the drawbacks might not seem worth the effort. I have cults that mix Rune & Sorcery, Spirit and Rune, Sorcery & Spirit, and weird blends of all three; but a specialist in any one will likely hand you your ass. I'm still detailing the vanilla cults; when I get around to some of the nonhuman.... > I want there to be a similar reason for a shaman to avoid sorcery (and > vice versa) given that we are abandoning the idea of Free INT. Main reason (for me, anyway) is that the shaman is too busy doing his mojo to spend hours pouring over books and scrolls, and sorcerers are usually to wrapped up in their own studies to treat spirits as equals, when they can be forced into servitude against their will. There are always exceptions; someone (memory fails me at the moment) wrote up rules for a "Shadow Mage", a sorcerer who basically binds a shade as his fetch, and basically does what a shaman does with it. - -- talmeta@bellatlantic.net - I *am* one of the Chosen Few! I really like his rule set, and it seems to be about a month of thought beyond what I had figured out so far. So... I'm just gonna give it a plug, rather than trying to dupe it. Thanks for the link! TELCHUR Runes: Air, Cold, Moon Telchur is the North Wind, God of Cold, Ice, and Winter. He is brother to Sotillion, the South Wind of Summer. Cult in the World Telchur the Terrible, Foe from the North, The IceFist, the Chill Hand of Doom - these and more are the titles heaped upon Telchur, son of Zilchus the Mighty. Telchur is revered by the Oeridian peoples dwelling in the Hold of Stonefist, the Barrens, and other lands touched by the full force of Winter. Lay Membership Requirements: Much like his sister Sotillion, most worshippers of Telchur offer prayer to him so that he will WITHOLD his full glory from them, rather than ask that he share it. But, again, some will always offer him worship so that he might visit their enemies instead of themselves.. Skills taught by the cult include Climb, Jump, Skiing, Orate, Speak Languages, Animal Lore, Craft (firemaking, shelter building, weaving), First Aid, World Lore, Listen, Scan, Ceremony, and 1HAxe attack/parry. Initiate Membership Requirements: Standard. Telchur's initiates are generally placed in charge of preparing their people to survive in the ice and snows of winters, the skills of building and keeping fires, the weaving of blankets, the construction of shelters. Initiates will often travel from stead to stead in the worst weather, insuring that their people do not lack for supplies or assistance if needed. Spirit Magic: Bladesharp, Disruption, Endurance, Hibernation, Mobility, Strength Priesthood Requirements: Prospective priests of Telchur are expected to undergo a ritual in which they expose themselves to Telchur's judgement. The initiate must spend the Longest Night naked and alone, typically tied to a tree. The chance of meeting Telchur's approval is extracted as a d100 roll equal to or less than the character's hit points.. Each 2 points that this roll fails by inflicts 1 point of general hit point damage to the candidate. Virtues for Telchur include Cruel, Energetic, Loyal, Pragmatic, and Stubborn. Hey; there was some decidedly useful stuff in there; one of the spirit combat variants got borrowed for my psionics system, David Cake's sorcery version was in there, in a non-postscript format (I've worn a variety of hats in my 10 years on the nets; the one thing I STILL hate is when people publish things in formats that aren't 100% readable on all platforms). Alot of the ideas in there have wound up in my campaign. - -- talmeta@bellatlantic.net - I *am* one of the Chosen Few! Well, as far as I know, Peter hasn't made any major revisions to his system in 5 years or so (at least, the copyright date is 1993). Maybe it could stand a fresh perspective. Enough, at least, withh a copy of the 1992 draft, to construct one's own home-brew version of RQ4. Also, things like Steve Maurer's critique, George Harris' mathematics, and Pelorian trews are precious. FUN was not sarcasm. I really enjoyed reading the whole thing, actually, and still have work to do with it for my own game ... Well, I didn't even have that much, so I was trying to "black-box" RQ4 from the comments in there. 90% of it wound up being useless trivia/commentary/etc., but quite a bit of the rest wound up getting saved for future campaigns. > RQ:AiG on-line would be nice, though ... On the whole, RQ: Adventures Wherever is fine with me; Greyhawk works as well as Selar (my long standing homebrew world), Fantasy Europe, or Middle Earth. I'm still left wishing that the Fantasy Earth supplement for the Aztecs got finished; that would have rocked. :) - -- talmeta@bellatlantic.net - I *am* one of the Chosen Few!
