And I freely admit that this is my own problem! :) I have a gut preference for a system where sorcerors do NOT use any structured spells like spirit magic, but rather wrestle with the web of reality to create the outcome they desire, or at least have this option alongside standard rituals and ceremonies for simpler results. Does anyone have knowledge of a set of rules/ideas that equate this, from any rpg system? Perhaps it would be related to elements, ie some runes like Fire, Darkness, Earth, and a sorceror progresses by progressively mastering different runes and being able to command powers related to them? Or perhaps it would not? Once again I admit this is all rather wishy washy at the moment, and I welcome any constructive feedback cheers Ian ithomson@swin.edu.au *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 06 Oct 1998 22:47:30 -0400 From: Tal Meta Subject: [RQ-RULES] DMD - Duskram for RQ/Greyhawk Gods of the Bakluni DUSKRAM Runes: Disorder, Light, Truth Duskram is the Lightbringer, who shines his questioning light into the lives of mortals and gods alike.. Cult in the World Duskram is the son of Istus and Koram, and the father of Monahai with Fazzah. Duskram is a figure of contradictions in Bakluni mythology, being Lawgiver, Peacemaker, Trickster, and Innovator. Where his father, Koram, stands for the weight of tradition and stability, Duskram serves to question the accepted, to find new definitions for what is acceptable, and to forge new relationships between ideas. Duskram's cult observes the 18th of Wealsun as their High Holy Day, with lesser holidays on the 18th of each month. Temples to Duskram are built of local stone, whitewashed and trimmed in white ashwood, without windows. Followers of Duskram are expected to bring their own light with them to the temple for services. Duskram's priests wear dolmans and kaffiyeh of bright yellow, with white agals. Lay Membership Requirements: Lay members of this cult are found among all walks of life; but especially among artists, poets, and inventors. Skills taught include Orate, Speak Languages, Human Lore, Lawspeaking, Read/Write Languages, Listen, Scan, and Ceremony. Initiate Membership Requirements: Standard. Initiates of this cult are expected to choose an accepted "fact of life", generally a custom or taboo, and find new and creative ways to break it. Bakluni law gives initiates of this cult a fair amount of leeway, but those who stray too far from the accepted morals of their community will still be sanctioned appropriately. Spirit Magic: Admonish, Comprehension, Ease Pain, Lantern, Protection, Solace and Visibility. Acolyte Membership Requirements: As per priests. Duskram's acolytes are expected to attempt to sway others to break with tradition, to try new things, or simply to have a new outlook on things. Many acolytes of Duskram go into politics, seeking to make changes at the highest levels. Priesthood Requirements: Standard. Duskram's priesthood is often thought to be the most dangerous of men. However, they are also sought for their undisputed ability to find solutions to problems in new and innovative ways. Whenever the old ways break down, the priesthood of Duskram stands ready to provide the new and interesting ways of doing them. Virtues for Duskram include Creative, Energetic, Rebellious, and Spiritual. Common Divine Magic: all Special Divine Magic: Clever Tongue, Courage, False Tongue, Know Lineage, Pathway, Reflection, Truth Telling Associated Gods Chan: provides Vigilance Koram: provides Shield Monahai: provides Heal Body - -- talmeta@bellatlantic.net - I *am* one of the Chosen Few! Does the spirit have to knock the adventurer down to 0 MP to posses them? It almost seems pointless, because if you can sick a spirit on somebody and knock 'em to 0 MP, they'll be unconsious. That's why, in my game, a shaman would only ever teach these spells if the subject was going to become a resident shaman for the tutor's tribe/clan, or a closely affiliated group. A player once played a shaman, and was short of money, so she sold spells to strangers for money. As stated previously, all Anonymous Bids are revealed in the Final Statement. I will be sending people a summary of what they have bid. Regarding Payment: My preferred method of Payment is by Western Union Money Transfer as this is cash and fast. Please quote me the Reference Number and amount sent. Please also send in IRISH POUNDS (+ 15% on the Sterling Price) as Western Union only pay out in local currency. If people live in the UK or Ireland then Sterling or Irish Cheque is acceptable. People in Japan can send me a Postal Order or Bank Draft in Sterling, but this takes a while to cash, so delivery will be delayed. I will only send the goods out when the Cheque/Postal Order/Bank Draft has been cashed. This can take up to 7 days in Ireland. I will try to send via airmail to those places far away, but Ireland, UK and Europe will have to settle for surface mail. Please allow a while for delivery (deliberately left vague). If people have any questions, please contact me ASAP. Regarding Items not bid for (White Dwarf, mainly), I will accept any reasonable offers from people who are interested. Regarding items which were below the Reserve Price. I will contact people on these and tell them if they were successful or not. I may accept higher offers on these from other people as the Reserve was stated as was the fact that I may or may not sell below the Reserve Price.
