And, if the player is standing on the dragon's back, I'd say the character has no choice but to do a called-shot forequarters (or whatever part) which is typically only 3/10 the HP (=.2 * 450 = 135 SIZ = +55% only!). That was my argument against the player who liked to lug around an arbalest and shoot at giant's heads. In any case, it makes sense. For called shots to be realistic you MUST apply the SIZ to hit modifier (usually a minus) to the player. Sometimes for circumstances sake I require that players are enacting a called shot (but without the SR penalty). hey for the sake of discussion, check out the current RQ Combat mods I have up at http://www.remotepoint.com/Glorantha - if you've seen them before, they are old - nothing has changed recently. - -Steve Lieb styopa@iname.com steve@necadon.com http://surf.to/styopa *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Oct 1998 20:52:25 +0100 From: tomz@writeme.com Subject: [RQ-RULES] RuneQuest So where do we go from here? Note that this is not a full conversion, just some notes: Each Form and Technique requires one POW sacrifice to obtain. You sacrifice it to "the magic" or "the Art". Each Form or Technique is a (00)-base Knowledge skill that can or cannot be improved by experience, depending on how you like to run such things. Otherwise, use as-is, remembering that every +/-1 in Ars Magica is +/-10%. Okay, not quite as-is, but I think individual adjustments can be made accordingly. One of the reasons I weaned myself off of AD&D was that I found I enjoyed writing my own scenarios and rules tweaks anyway; why spend $12-$20 for someone else's vision? :) Personally, I'd like to buy the game from Hasbro myself; with the right licenses and a bit of rules trimming, it could become a viable game again, or so I'd like to think. Important thing would be to find the right game world to license; if SJG hasn't snapped it up already, I'd propably try and get Steven Brust's Dragaera as the "official" gameworld, for a variety of reasons, but the most important one would have to be that nobody else has it yet. :) - -- talmeta@bellatlantic.net - I *am* one of the Chosen Few! Issaries is a branch of Chaosium, sort of a "if Chaosium goes under Issaries will survive" sort of dodge, that works both financially and resource-level, or so I've gathered. > The last good thing I think was Strangers in Prax, which was > excellent mind you, but was it a death rattle for RuneQuest??? Not unreasonable? The Siz 450 creature may be 200 m long with skin 3 m thick; how can you possibly hit something critical 10% of the time with a little 2 m sword? An attack literally doesn't penetrate the armor, should a critical or special even be allowed? The rules are dubious at this scale.
