Especially not to add "Yeah, I agree" or "No, I disagree." Or be excoriated. If someone writes something good and you want to say "good show" please do. But don't include the whole message you praise. 2. Use an appropriate Subject line. 3. Learn the art of paraphrasing: Don't just quote and comment on a point-by-point basis. 4. No anonymous posting, please. Don't say something unless you're ready to stand by it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 31 Dec 1998 11:28:39 -0500 From: Tal Meta Subject: [RQ-RULES] DMD - Selan for RQ/Greyhawk Gods of (well, "for the") Bakluni SELAN Runes: Mastery, Fertility, Seduction, Harmony Selan is the goddess of Music, Beauty, and Art. Cult in the World Sometimes known as 'the Heavenly Grace' or 'the Comfort of the Desert', Selan is among the most beautiful of the Bakluni goddesses. The daughter of Istus, she is wife to Zaan, and mother to Jaahar and Bleredd. In mythology, Selan was courted by all the most powerful genies and by many of her brother gods, as well. But in the end it was Zaan's keen mind that won her love. In turn, he is credited with teaching her how to preserve the beauty that she saw in permanent form, expressed in music, artwork, and sculpture. Selan's followers celebrate 4th of Growfest as their High Holy Day, with lesser holidays on the 4th of each Festival. Services are always conducted indoors, in airy mosques devoted to Selan alone (i.e. no shrines to other gods permitted). Common attire for priestesses of Selan include chador and keffiyeh of deep blue, with a black aba entwined with pearls or other gemstones. Lay Membership (the Notes) Requirements: Lay members of this cult are typically artists or musicians, and generally (75%) female. While men are not prohibited from joining this cult, it remains predominantly female. Skills taught by the cult include Orate, Sing, Speak Languages, Craft (sculpture, painting, barbary, massage, etc), Lores (Bakluni, Human, Music, World), Devise, Listen, Touch, and Ceremony. Initiate Membership (the Voices) Requirements: Standard. Initiates of this cult are often put to work beautifying the mosque and it's surrounding grounds. Those with sufficient skill may be hired out surrounding nobles or merchants to do minor works, as well. Spirit Magic: Coordination, Demoralize, Glamour, Mindspeech, and Moon Sight. Acolyte Membership (the Songs) Requirements: as per Priests. Acolytes are rare in this cult, serving mainly as assistant priestesses. Priesthood (the Masterworks) Requirements: Standard. Selan's priestesses serve as instructors and master artists. Outside of their cult duties, their works are typically in high demand. In addition to art of the eternal sort (music, sculpture, etc.), Selan's priestesses are sometimes called upon to work a more physical artistry. Their power over beauty is great enough that they can make even the homliest man or woman beautiful, and their skills at massage are ledgendary. Virtues for her priestesses include: Calm, Creative, Energetic, Indulgent, and Joyous. Common Divine Magic: all Special Divine Magic: Attract Attention, Bless (Birth, Home), Command Passion Spirit, Community, Enchant Beauty, Household Harmony, Invigorate, Precision , Restore , Summon Passion Spirit, Vesper.
