It doesn't seem to me to be a logical extension of the current properties of the spell, especialy since Glow does still exist. If any spell should be revised it's the one that most closely matches the desired result, and that's got to be Glow. There have been some delays on the printer's side though. They'll ship out the books as soon as they can, but Rick is getting married on saturday. They were hoping to get all this sorted out before then, but even so it shoud;n't slow down the turnaround time in terms of delivery to the buyer. There have been delays in production, but this is a spare-time project. It's also one of the most expensive fan publication projects in terms of up-front costs I've heard of, hence the need for pre-orders to get things moving. However it looks like it's realy going to be worth the wait. Cult in the World Berronar is often seen as the glue that holds the sometimes fractuous dwur pantheon together. Symbolizing defense and protection of the family, she also personifies the importance of oaths, loyalty, and honesty. Berronar's cult celebrates two High Holy Days, one on the 4th of Richfest, and the other on the 4th of Needfest. While household shrines to Berronar are commonplace, temples to the Mother Goddess are always carved from the living earth, with a living carpet of luminescent mosses. Priestesses of Berronar wear white robes beneath an overrobe of silver-grey. Silver rings are worn on the middle finger of each hand. Lay Membership Requirements: Berronar is worshipped by nearly all dwur women, especially mothers. This cult is traditionally charged with both the eductaion of the young and the maintainance of the clan records. Skills taught by the cult include Debate, Orate, Speak Languages, Craft (Calligraphy), First Aid, Lores (Clan, Dwur, Law, World), Read/Write, Play Instrument, Listen, Ceremony, Mace attack, Shield parry. If you make the illusion of a candle it will have all the actual physical properties of a candle that can be sensed with the eyes (or other sight organs), and the emission of light is one of them. - -Terje Tollisen (Now living in Austraila:-) __________________________________________________ FREE Email for ALL! I've been out of circulation but I think I've caught up with most of it all :-) Terje, I agree but one of the questions I have is how many illusion spells does one need in order to do this? Or how many other spells does one need? For example, in order to make a 'real' candle, does one need phan.sight (obvious), phan.touch (as a base), create light/ glow, create heat? Or can it be done more easily (ie. its possible for a non-magus to create a *candle*!) with fewer spells and MP? Of course there may be some who would argue that you must also use create shadow (to get shadows where the light plays on walls and things), create wind to make the candle move around, destroy wax to make the candle expire, and a hundred-and-one other things :-) I believe, through my few links with Eurmal and the Mistress of Illusion, that *anything* is possible *with only illusions*. That is, it doesn't take create heat to create a candle, the illusion can do that itself. Now I'm certainly not arguing that the few sorcerous illusion spells written-up can do everything (ignoring the pathetic divine magic illusion spells), but either there's a lot of spells missing, or these current spells *can* be more powerful that the current writeups suggest. Hence the spells I've started to _invent_. Cheers Robert (on an illusory crusade!) (currently brainstorming and writing some illusory stories as well - will post them when complete (ha!)) *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 09 Jul 1999 12:45:49 +0200 From: Julian Lord Subject: Re: [RQ-RULES] Illusion spells and questions: Sandy's sorcery Robert : > For example, in order to make a 'real' candle, does one need > phan.sight (obvious), phan.touch (as a base), create light/ > glow, create heat? Why Heat but not Cold, Lightning, or dampness ? Then again, it *is* a special effect. Hmmm ... > Of course there may be some who would argue that you must also > use create shadow (to get shadows where the light plays on > walls and things), create wind to make the candle move around, > destroy wax to make the candle expire, and a hundred-and-one > other things :-) If you wish the candle to expire you actually *do* need the Art of Illusion, or to keep your candle Illusion Active, or to Multispell your Illusion with a Summoning spell and get a spirit to control the illusion for you, or some other complicated trick. More sensibly, perhaps, create the illusion of a candle, and _light it_ with a match !! Otherwise, I'm all for using some of the Phantom Sight illusory SIZ/Phantom Touch illusory Energy being re-allocated for special effects, using similar scales as the standard Illusion spells. (while being careful to note that a specialised spell like Glow creates Light *much* more effectively) > I believe, through my few links with Eurmal and the Mistress of > Illusion, that *anything* is possible *with only illusions*. That's RIGHT !!! Here's another light question : Does the Illusion of a mirror reflect the image of someone who stands before it ? cheers, Julian *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ End of RuneQuest Rules Digest V2 #109 ************************************* *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message.
