This is one of the few things our group has retained from _RQ4:AiG_: Those rules allow the declaration of "parry" to parry _all_ attacks [in the melee round] from a _single_ opponent. Such allowance is in contradiction to RQ2 and RQ3, but we use it. To those others of us who were playtesters of the ill-fated _RQ4:AiG_: Has there ever been any evidence of release from our [Humakti] vows of copyright exclusiveness? Well, a couple of years back something _very_ simular happened in my campaign. A group of Fian(mercs)were at a hostel.During the stay, one of them; Raghnall, a Fir Bolg with _amazing_ strength encountered a Sidhe, Ptesia, _also_ of considerable strength( from a group of characters introduced at the hostel to more-easily join the adventure ).Ptesia decided to challenge Raghnall to a rasslin' match to determine just who _was_ strongest, and everyone went outside to watch. During the match, the Ptesia got Raghnall in a headlock & proceeded to twist his head _clean-off_ (rolled 01 with a _really_ high STR).Well, Raghnall's friends (the Mercs) objected to the outcome and one of them cut off the Sidhe's head.A general melee ensued, and bodies were piled-up. Later, at Raghnall's burial a dwarf named Elros called on the Gods to turn the burial-site into a sacred place so Raghnall's cairn wouldn't be disturbed.Well, the DI was a success(rolling 09 with a POW of 9). All the winter-bare vegetation suddenly greened, and a hedge sprang up around the clearing.Elros was gone, and in her place was a new tree grown up thu her suit of armor. It was _certianly_ an unexpected thing to happen.Elros' player never _thought_ that she'd be drained with this simple request, but _oh well_...What can you do? The clearing is now green year-round, and has fatigue-restoring properties for those who spend time there. As far as you wondering about a HQ to bring the character back from the dead.Hey,why not?If I remember right, wasn't some Gloranthan-type rescued from hell?(yes,I hate citing Gloranthan examples on the RULES Digest, but its the only thing that comes to mind). But the character isn't _in_ a bad place that requires rescuing (lihe hell), he's with his God.Why would he want to leave? Then again, maybe _another_ successful DI _would_ allow the dead guy to come back? -Ken Murphy- *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. He was fighting nasty chaos (well, the demon from Lord Skippen's Mansion :-) and called on his god (he needed to!). It used all his POW but Stormbull answered and basically berserked, bladesharped, etc. the character so he could defeat the demon. So, while the character, now with 0 POW, stayed in Glorantha to finally kill the demon (which he did!), one of the other characters decided to help him and threw permanent POW at him. The GM allowed this as it was permanent POW. Now, the thrower didn't know how much had got through to the stormbuller and, by the end of everything, it turned out that the stormbuller had 3 POW while the throwing character was down by about 6 POW. It certainly helped mythically that the throwing character was an initiate of Eiritha and so they were sort of replaying Earthpower to some extent - a very good ruling by the GM and thought by the player :-) However, it was also good for everyone since the character had been played for a long time and it was not going to be particularly nice to have them die through a simple dice roll. Maybe the GM had something else up their sleeve, but I don't think so (he was as worried, and then amazed, as everyone else...) PS. The stormbully *did* manage to work himself, very carefully, back to 18 POW at which point he finally became a Storm Kahn.
