Pretty meek. In my opinion one HW boost should be equal to 1 point of spirit magic, or 5% in skill, or something, but skills or affinities should be translated into RQ by multipluing them by 3.33% and to HW by dividing by 3.33%. WIth no character classes and all characters having access to all magic it does I find offer a better range of player characters. What do other people think?? I had a realy nice character, an orphan, who was quick on his feet, good with a sword, and dabbled in spirit AND sorcery magic. The 3rd Ed. rules handled it just fine. Nostalgia maybe but I prefer it. The Sorcery rules in RQ3 are too complicated for PC players. However I do mix and match a bit. I use a lot of the spells from RQ3 and i'm considering bringing in the POW*5 limit and encumbrance limit to spirit magic; it's too powerful in RQ2. > > Just as a matter of interest, I note that a lot of the emails relate > to the 3rd edition rules. Using parent's occupation to determine previous experience is certainly NOT a character class. It is, at best, a justification for you having any prior knowledge at all. They botched the implementation, but they did keep it simple. As for access to magic. I like each cult getting access to only 10% or so of the spells. It gives players incentive to help other cults for spell aid. It justifies making friends outside your cult. It makes it harder for PC's to get every spell they want (which is a good thing). I also feel that the three forms of magic should have been mutually exclusive so that you can't a . With just a few small adjustments, the three forms can stand alone in reasonable balance against each other. Admittedly, combining all three forms of magic gives a very heroic feel with 30+ points of damage every round and armor and protective spells in the high 20's, but this requires that PC's compromise their cultural views and accept spells that they are taught are bad. I don't like forcing personality compromises just for power. So, in general, I think you have grossly prejudged the RQ3 system and not given it a fair chance, which is what so many others did, leading to the death of RuneQuest as a system. Now it's time to go buy a copy of Hero War and see what the new game has to offer. But can I upload an attachment through the list address? would people rather I email them individually? Specifically, the Spirit Combat rules. One PC was attacked by two spirits. I didn't need to keep checking the resistance chart as MP's were lost. I just keep rolling POWx5%. After the combat was done I asked for a vote to see if we would use his spirit combat rules. The vote was unanimously in favor. Steve's method of varying levels of success and the ability to beat back the spirits on a defense roll gave the whole event a good feel. The spirit combat went quicker than usual as well. As a GM I was very satisfied with it and I could see the other PC's hoping to get into a spirit combat to try these rules. _______________________________________________________ Get 100% FREE Internet Access powered by Excite Visit http://freelane.excite.com/freeisp *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 May 2000 13:40:49 -0400 From: Tal Meta Subject: Re: [RQ-RULES] Demons SteveWTurner@aol.com wrote: > > So my question is, how do I distribute them? > I can scan the documents in and save each page as a tiff document and then > zip the document up like a book. > But can I upload an attachment through the list address? The list admin (who wouldn't mind a copy himself, actually) would much prefer that you either send them as individual emails to interested parties, or put them up on a website, and then direct us to the url in question. If you'd like, I'll even volunteer my own website for the purpose. Attachments and mailing lists do -NOT- go together. (Besides, likely as not, it'll bounce and I'll be the only one whop gets it, anyway). - -- talmeta@cybercomm.net - Heretic, Dilettante, & God-Machine ICQ - 12594453 AIM - talmeta Homepage - *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 May 2000 14:20:03 -0400 From: Joseph Elric Smith Servant to Arioch Subject: Re: [RQ-RULES] Demons Well I would be interested i a copy Ken SteveWTurner@aol.com wrote: > Hi, > > I am getting a copy of the demon rules from white dwarf.
