I thought I'd ask some questions. 1) Is there a link to archives of this mailing list ? 2) Does anyone know of a way to find a group that plays RuneQuest, in my area ? 3) Anyone have an idea, how I can acquire AH's RQ-Land of the Ninja ? 4) How about some house rules for using the RQ3 system for Call of Cthulhu ? 5) Elric/Stormbringer ? 6) Pendragon ? I'd like to see how firearms and such, mix with RQ3. I think I've checked most of the RQ related websites, but I'm sure that I probably missed something. 7) What is the current "scoop" on RQ4 ? Will it ever happen ? Are the changes really for the better ? I have lots more questions, but they can wait :) Best Regards, Paul Vissing visworks@bellsouth.net viss51@bellsouth.net *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.ient.com with the line 'unsubscribe runequest-rules' as the body of the message. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Sep 2001 08:03:30 -0400 From: Tal Meta Subject: Re: [RQ-RULES] RE: The New Guy "Paul Vissing Jr." wrote: > > 1) Is there a link to archives of this mailing list ? ftp://ftp.mpgn.com/Gaming/RuneQuest/MailingListArchive/runequest-rules/ and ftp://ftp.mpgn.com/Gaming/RuneQuest/MailingListArchive/ > 2) Does anyone know of a way to find a group that plays RuneQuest, in my > area ? You can snap one module out of one dialect of the system and into any other with minimal trouble. I use the Ringworld timing system in RuneQuest, for instance. It should be trivial to snap the RQ magic system into CoC or Stormbringer. The only things you'd be missing by using those systems would be hit locations and skill values that can go to 100% and beyond, meaning no multiple attacks. > 6) Pendragon ? Are the changes really for the better ? You also commented that you hope someone comes to their senses and lets someone license it to be produced. I'm afraid Hasbro has nothing to gain by doing that. At best, it would interfere with the d20 system and help a competitor. At worst, it would be a flop and a needless drain of resources. Plus, Hasbro likes to sit on all its old intellectual property. It was the abbreviation that was used in place of the official name of the Roman Empire, much like "U.S.A.". The stuff for CoC, particularly Cthulhu Now or Delta Green, is probably the most comprehensive published BRP-type firearms stuff for "modern" firearms. Think I should have been more clear. I was speaking of using the RQ rules with these other games. I have to ask another question: What is the BRP system ? BRP = "Basic Role Playing", the original BRP was a thin booklet published by Chaosium as an "introduction to Role-Playing". It contained a simplified variant of the RuneQuest rules designed to be easy to pick up and get started using. The term has come to be applied collectively to the other Chaosium games using RQ derived mechanics, including: Worlds of Wonder Call of Cthulhu SuperWorld ElfQuest Ringworld Stormbringer Hawkmoon Elric The "Other Suns" game produced by FGU is similar enough mechanically that I generally include it as well. I believe Nephilim is also mechanically similar, but haven't looked at it in detail. > > The stuff for CoC, particularly Cthulhu Now or Delta Green, is probably > > the most comprehensive published BRP-type firearms stuff for "modern" > > firearms. > > Think I should have been more clear. The mechanics related to human physiology, damage, healing, etc. are pretty comparable across the systems, I'd say you could probably take the specifications for firearms from CoC (things like damage, reload times, failure percentages) and use them with the RQ rules as-is with little, if any, "jiggling". Which is the whole point of what we're saying: why re-invent the wheel?
