I got the impression that Hargrand the Green dated from the time of Andrin, but perhaps he is contemporary of Tarkalor. So why was he fighting against the Pharoah and the High King of Heortland?

I imagined that hargrand rebelled aganst Andrin and took the Larnsti with him.

I'm not so sure. I got the impression of a three way split between the Larnsti, Andrini and Volsaxar.

Except that the Volsaxar have been independent since the time of Hardrad the Green (Barbarian Adventures p9), which might have happened when Tarkalor fought the Kitori ("The Volsaxi tribe was begun [...]" KoS p196 or earlier.
