Agreed. Give the man some quirks and blind spots, sure, but he's a man who fixes his mistakes.

That's the paradox of arc characters, they are predefined to a certain extent, but also cyphers and containers for GMs. I can see why Issaries tends to keep them at arms' length, and why GMs tend the opposite.

So we can state basic facts and suggestions for characters, but have to leave plenty of room for WTSN/WTCR - 'What the story needs/what the campaign requires'.

OUR OWN CHARACTERS however, the second order heroes we surround the key characters with (most of whom we've yet to create), these we have more freedom to make, break and match, to impose motivations and rivalries and even deaths upon. I'm starting to think these heroes will be the one's much of the story gets told through.   

To paraphrase Marshall, "it is after all a game we are writing."

Yes. As long as we respect the sources, we don't have to worship them. The play's the thing...
