I agree entirely. When I created the suggested district names, I had only a fuzzy idea of the history and makeup of the city. I have no hesitation to change names and descriptions if people would like to make suggestions.

Maybe we can associate locales with clans or bloodlines.

Shambleshur is half deserted, mainly for outsiders, though it has a mixed clan population.

Guilderinn (The Guild's Inn) is now mainly a public area, associated with an extinct clan. It also has many deserted buildings.

Dalewatch is a great tower commanding views into Northvale and distant Smithstone. Clan A.

Bullshur (Bull Shore) is also a tower, perhaps commanding views south-eastward to Stormwalk Mountain. Clan B.

T'anerow (Thane's Row) is a quarter associated with the wealthy warrior clan C. it is named for an ancestor thane of the clan, a Volsaxi hero and champion. So its not a generic Thane's row, its a clan quarter named for a specific thane.

Whiteledge contains the finer public buildings. It is associated with the bloodlines of the king's household. (Is Volsaxi kingship hereditary? tanist? or life? for wholeness? seven year?)

Lets add another clan (Clan D) who were once beyond the walls, now crowded into Shambleshur and other locales throughout the city.

While my suggestion of 900 metres for the major axis may seem small, remember that the city has several levels of verticality. And basements, sub-basements galore.

Would someone with a grasp of Volsaxi history care to name clans A-D and their ancestors, totems gods, etc.? I guess totemic names will do fine for now. Based around Animals? Weapons? Colours?

Then I guess the next step is to start suggesting buildings and industries, clan descriptions, gangs and colour.

John
