Bat thoughts:

The Bat and Orlanth are old aquaintances. The Rinliddi Bat underworld deity helped Rebellus Terminus to off Murharzarm. For its troubles, Shargash skinned it and sent it down, available on call in Rinliddi and under the Bright Empire elsewhere as well, until Arkat did it in.

The Bat of Olde was no enemy of Orlanth (or Umath). It is possible that the Heortlings remember her as Artia Nightdaughter, from the First Ring. There is no reason at all why Orlanth would have had trouble with a flying mega-microbat offing pesky sun eagles...

Having Shargashi present when the Bat makes its dive/pirouette/whatever could be negative. Getting them into siege tunnels while the Bat approaches sounds like a good idea.

Bat mass needn't be that great - it could house a considerable volume of void (as per Thed ritual) or just a hollow pathway to the Underworld, making it basically a zeppelin with grisly exterior.

When the Bat is on the move, the priests on top and trailing behind keep it in a state of near-dormancy. No great bursts of speed are to be expected. In attack mode, these rules are suspended...

1 - stole the power from countless children of Vrimak it devoured. 2 - got the power from Umath/Orlanth for assistance in the early rebellion.
3 - lifts because of attraction to stellar bodies (Artia, Red Moon).
