Re: pigeons, I am reminded of Wing Commander Coo-Coo-Coo, from several of John Hughes' baboon-related scenarios. She was a Lunar officer (a highly-intelligent courier pigeon), so the Lunar connection is already established.
Fortunately, this makes Dick Dastardly and his dim cohorts in Vulture Squadron into Orlanthi rebels, so it seems Jane's bias in villainy doesn't matter much in the end :-)
