All (OK, Orlanthi all!) other indications are that the Pelandans are the 'Greek' bit, and the Dara Happans are more [insert fertile crescent civ. of choice here], though.

In the case of the military in general, and phalanxes in particular, this may be rationalisable, though: the terminology originates in Pelanda, but wholesale adoptionism comes into place, when the Dara Happans decide (or more to the point, are forced) to beat them at their own game.

Or indeed, the terminology is Modern Lunar, 'JeSevened' from a Pelandan rather than Dara Happan source. ("What's the word for that bunch of 1000 heavily armed men marching in close formation directly towards us?" "Hrm, I'm not sure, let me consult the Ancient Texts...")
