Early stages IMOG

With the latest thread seems appropriate to post what has been happening IMOG. This is a fairly longwinded attempt to summarise what has happened.

PCs are 2 Volsaxi Clansmen, 1 Bacofi Clansman and 1 Pavisite who was travelling to Whitewall with a larger group with a gift from Agrath/Garrath. The bulk was killed by Dragonnewts and the Pavisite has a lot of gear from the deceased (this PC was included to give them REALISTIC GAME ADVANTAGE ie enchanted items).

Anyhow the PCs arrive early Sea Season with the Pavisite expecting to carry on to Karse then to Corflu. They spent some time yapping to the locals before the events of Illusion Week filter back.

PCs sent out to find out what is going on and have a run in with a scouting group sent by Jorkandros. They went for aimed shots to the legs. As it turned out 90% of the shots hit the left leg! They captured some soldiers and a Junior Officer. Information gained led Broyan to send out probing attacks on the Lunars as they advance.

Jorkandros split his forces with 1000 on the plateau proper the rest on the Southern rise watching the entrance to the Hidden Stables.

Rumours from refugees prompt Broyan to send a group to head north towards Wilmskirk.
PCs draw the short straw and set off at night only to stroll straight into a Lunar camp (Run away! Run away!). After regrouping at Sesdryina's Wood, they head down Ramsdrift Climb and go north.

They do end up going to Wilmskirk but on the way, at Twotop, they meet a very large baggage train heavily guarded. After a sneak around they (correctly) come to the conclusion that the wagons carry siege engines. They then head back to Whitewall the same way as they went out, this time avoiding the patrols.

Then there was a period of time when the PCs just hung around mixing with the locals, making friends (and enemies) and attending meetings. The Pavisite was grilled about "What the Lunars did" during the siege of Pavis (very short!).

Then the Lunars started pelting the Bullshur and Dale Watch sections with brick-sized rocks (some with "Take That!" written on them in New Pelorian). This  went on for a few days until Broyan sent a raid out to assassinate the Engineers. 200 warriors harried the Lunars watching the gate and Ramsdrift. Whilst this group held up the Lunar forces watching the gate in the Whiteledge district, another band of about 100 head down Ramsdrift, up the otherside and head towards Sestato's Leap.

Once again the PCs managed only to hit the left legs of the enemies (so much so, one Lunar nearly survived by just holding his shield over his leg and gave up on parrying). After the slaughter they had a look around and spotted the  large crate marked with death runes.
"That's Greek Fire!" they cried.
"Who are the Greeks?" I asked

One bright spark suggested that they should burn the engines using the oil. However the stoppered amphora held gorp, which the PCs found out the hard way. After retreating the PCs attended feasts and much fun was had by all.

During this time Jorkandros was gathering his forces cutting of the Ginnel and blocking off Ramsdrift. I'm working on Jorkandros' 2500 troops being split with 1000 on the Plateau and the rest watching the Hidden Stables and drilling.
Forces in the City IMG consist of 200 WW inhabitants, 100 Humakti, 150 mixed Orlanthi (Sylangi, Bacofi, Curtali etc) and a handful of Uroxi.

Once again the Lunars started flinging rocks and the odd gorp. PCs are drafted in to hunt down gorp which are flung in. Anyone who didn't know Disruption was taught the spell. This was also a good time to have a friendly NPC killed with a flung brick. This caused a genuine sense of loss and anger.

We closed the last session with Yelm's rising illuminating the Lunars building an earthwork outside WW watching the gate in the Whiteledge District guarded by 1000 troops waiting for a fight...

A few points brought up in the sessions. 1. Disseminating all the information was done via one of the PCs who was a Skald. Seemed reasonable that he would know songs/stories about Whitewall and Oliver's fiction (some with slight modification) was used for the basis of this.
2. Sieges are boring. PCs really need things to do. 3. The lighting in the King's Hall. No one in my group liked the reflective marble shining light in. We changed it to large circular panels scoured very, very thin (magic, wind, forgotten how take your pick). I decided to connect it to the fire rune with a central boss. Yep spotlights. 4. I asked what they thought what the buildings were like and traditional longhouses made of marble, lager and grander with patched up and the rare wooden  ones seemed to be the best fit in their minds anyway. 5. The Hidden Stables became the home of the non-combatants, the infirmary and the displaced.
6. What did Argrath send? After some discussion it was felt that it was an enchanted iron (Mastakos) Movement Rune holding enough Teleport Divine Magics to get people on/off the back of the Bat for those who want to take part but cannot otherwise get there!

I hope some of this will be of use or spring some ideas Steve
