And as I said in a previous message, we "know" that if you stand on the walls of Whitewall and look down at Tarkalor's Gate, it looks very much like looking down on Bacharach from the "watchtower" thing just below the carpark.

I'd guess that there's the long, wide, path for wagons (winding and not too steep, as you say), plus a quick route involving lots of steps.

And (my personal suspicion), a rope you can slide down when you're in a REAL hurry to reinforce the Gate...
