Sorry, my comments weren't that helpful, were they? I don't think I know anything helpful. But here's what I believe:

It is possible to fight and kill the Bat (I witnessed one such event, at the climax of one campaign). Kill it's priests and the enemy will lose control of the beast. Chaos things can be vulnerable to spirit magic. And, finally, don't be distracted - your survival is not a requirement...
