Totally in agreement. 1) they were a tad early. 2) the God Learners shouldn't be behind everything or even most things. Let them be their own special selves.

Also Moon = Balance is just such a nice equation. It makes a nice contrast between the Lunars, the Orlanthi, and the Solars, which underlies much (but by no means all) of the Genertelan Hero Wars. Everyone likes equilibrium, because equilibrium is that space between disorder and order where stuff can happen on a human scale. But the three groups differ on how to achieve equilibrium.

The Solars favor a careful building, like a ziggurat -- every stone in its place, slow construction, little (if any) deviation from the original plan. Everyone does their part and desires no more than they deserve, and society is stable and constant and correct.

The Orlanthi favor a wild equilibrium maintained by constant movement. Violence and stability play against one another supported by Orlanth's motion. While innovation is allowed, it is most often destroyed by reaction, resulting in a society which is not stagnant but occilates between the new and the traditional somewhat unpredicatably.

The Lunars are quieter, achieving equilibrium by balancing unlike things without the Orlanthi need for constant movement. Anything that can be opposed by an opposite can be included in the Lunar Way. This theoretically allows the Lunars to take in the best of "conquored" (or are they "liberated?") people while discarding the unbalanced and destructive. It also, of course, allows for extreme luxury to be balanced by extreme poverty, and for personal fulfillment to be matched by despair, depending on whether you want the Lunars to be the Good Guys of the Bad Guys.

That's why I like balance.

But it's just me.

Peter
