For a long time I've been thinking about running a game, it would be a PBEM, where each player controls two "characters". One is a scholar who almost only interacts with other players by "producing" or "discovering" or "translating" historical sources relating to, you guessed it, the 2nd character. It would be competitive - players are trying to prove that their historical hero achieved something, and that the other players heroes were less than heroic. The scholars have their own agendas - perhaps to discredit a rival, or get access to some special library, or hire some sellswords to plunder an ancient ruin for evidence.

It wasn't going to be Buserians and semi-feudal taxation schemes but it it would be close.
