In fact the man rune might be best described as the foundation of culture? Or, the difference between man and some beasts is that they are a cultural animal due to their existence within time, their awareness of this and how it effects the way they interact with each other, the worlds they live in and the gods. Some animals, maybe even all animals and plants too are aware and sentient in their own ways and to varying degrees on different plains of existence. Outside of time everything changes: motivations, what passes for motivation, cause and effect but with out the linear relationship...because, always was.
