The Genertela book specifies they are very dull and austere people, which could be related to their life which is strictly regulated by their caste laws. For example, it's possible they only eat and sleep at certain hours. The peasants do not have the right to leave their village. They have to repeat the same routines all day long, all week long, and all year long. Etc.
