I agree with the difference with being exiled from a Clan and a Cult.

Your God is in You. He is You. You are Him. If you're a finovani and raid, and steal stuff, preferably cattle, you are practising His ways and keeping Him strong. His Magics thus remains strong in you.

If you cool your heels in Corflu learning to fish-fly during a season, Finovan leaves you little by little. He leeches out of you (-1 to your Magics every week spent without raiding after the first 4 weeks for example). This leeching includes your "Initiate" keyword : you forget the prayers, the feelings associated with them and it gets more difficult to contact Him.

I'd say if the PC raided the local lunars' fish farm, or uz' insect pen (I think newtlings wouldn't count), and made a sacrifice of the loot to Finovan from time to time, establishing a de facto shrine, he'd keep his Connection to His God.

If he went raiding in Teshnos, facing unknown adversaries and reaping great prizes, the Finovan in Him would be very happy !

But that's the important part! Peter's right if you want to emphasize those aspects.

Having recently played a lot of King of Dragon Pass, I don't think outlawry from your clan is always outlawry from your cult. In any case, a story theme is taking in outlaws, and the stories make a difference between someone who *was* outlawed and who *is* an outlaw (i.e. continues to act outside the law).

And I've run games where I'm more interested in having PCs travel great distances (away from their normal cult) than worrying about the niceties of worship.

Still, it's not at all unreasonable that worship be much more difficult. After all, there's a reason people turn to Gagarth.

Another answer: you can't. And begin being visited by impests, etc. Or lingering penalties to your Finovan related magic (which may become lingering penalties to Finovan-related abilities after a while).
