I might be misremembering details, but I think Harvar Ironfist, despot of Alda Chur started out as a Yelmalion, but I think then announced that he was a priest of Yelm (rather to the surprise of Dara Happan Yelmites visiting).

So in at least some times it's a form of social climbing.
