Dragonnewt Encounter

Here is an encounter for characters travelling in Sartar. It gives the players something to work out amongst themselves now, and the Narrator the chance to have their decision come back into play at some stage in the future, possibly to their benefit, possibly not...

As the characters are travelling they hear the sound of a creature in pain from behind a ridge. Assuming they investigate they find a crippled demi-bird, it's leg is broken. (If they investigate further it caught its foot in a trap while travelling at speed.)

A short distance from the demi-bird is the supine figure of a Warrior Dragonnewt. He is unconcious, and was obviously thrown from the mount and banged his head on a rock. He is equipped as one might expect for a Warrior Dragonnewt (Stone Utama, Obsidian Klanth, Dragonbone Bow). He also has a pouch containing several (recently minted) Lunars.

It's up to the characters to decide whether to try and patch him up, fisnish him off, or just leave him alone, and if they don't heal him, whether they also rob him.

There are always consequences to any action, and this is especially true of any action with Dragonnewts whose outlook is very alien to that of humans, and who are continually reborn in their ancestral cities when they die. Saving this 'Newt will give him a karmic debt to the characters, which may not please him - on the other hand who can tell when having a Dragonnewt owe you a favour might be useful. On the third hand, his grasp of human culture is not strong, and the "aid" he gives in payment may bring it's own problems.

If he dies, whether through the action or inaction of the characters, he may get to know of their part in his demise (He may also assume they were responsible for setting the trap, of course). This too may have caused their destinies to be linked, although this time he is more liekly to be looking for revenge (especially if they robbed him).

Another possibilty, if the players just leave him, is that some other group, with whom the players clan are in conflict come across him. The 'newt then has his destiny linked with this group, which may cause problems for the characters in the future...
