Hi all

Continuing on with some thoughts about lions and other large cats.

The idea that Western Peloria/Pelanda is the source for the Pelorian Lion (ala Homeric Greece/Assyria and equivalent of the RW asiatic lion, I presume) makes sense. It makes a nice rugged and hilly terrain for the lions to prosper in. The Brass Mountains and their foothills might then be the centerpoint of their range, a range which extends south into Brolia and Charg (Basmol returns leading a horde of lion hsunchen?), west to the Sweet Sea, and east towards the Oslir. Does a shaggier group of Pelorian Lions exist in the Grey Mountains?

The arrival of larger Carmanian Lions with Syranthir should give a good influx of stock into the area, perhaps creating a hardier breed for the Bull Shahs to fight against.

So what does that leave for eastern Peloria/Zarkos? We know Smilodons live in the Balazar region (I assume these are more solitary like tigers than social like lions?) and probably up into the Rockwoods. Perhaps we can postulate Mountain Lions (cougar, puma, catamount, or whatever other name they've gone by) for the Jord Mountain region and into northern Zarkos or another smaller sabre-tooth (I know there were smaller sabre-tooths historically, but don't know whether they were solitary, social, etc.).

Durbaddath by extension might be a Mountain Lion-headed god who later replaced that head with that of a Pelorian Lion (or as Peter suggests Durbaddath may not have even had a lion connection originally). I will assume that Sakkar is the father of the sabre-tooths, particularly Smilodon, and that he is a solitary character.

Harald
