As Sandy P and Andrew Bean have said, some elves do appreciate fire as an agent of regeneration. Green elves, associated with northern coniferous forests, will certainly have this attitude. Many coniferous trees can only reproduce after a forest fire, it requires the heat of the fire to open their cones.

What the elves will not want is to see the fire completely out of control and spreading through areas that have not yet reached their mature state. I like the idea of ecstatic elves running through the climax forest with torches starting the "fires of rebirth". Could really make their neighbours nervous.
