Broos and satyrs

Hi All,

I haven't contributed for some time so I'd like to throw this in. Some time ago people were speculating on whether Broo and Unicorns were related and also on what the "normal" form Broos were. Well, in true Godlearner style, I present the following hypothesis (which I like so much that it's Truth in my campaigns):

When the world was young and the man-rune was fresh many deities played with it and produced wood-men dark-men, stone-men [1] and so on. A gentle goddess of fertility called Thed was one of these and produced a race of beast men called Satyrs, who had features of goats and of men but not of women. Everything in those days was harmoneous and Thed exercised her powers of fertility and made it possible for Satyrs to reproduce with the aid of humans or elves or dryads (which have only females anyway) and so all races prospered. However after Thed had been brutally violated [2] she turned away from all the good she had done became one of the Unholy Trio and used her great fertililty to give brith to the Devil. Most of her children followed her and became twisted parodies of what they had been - able to impregnate almost anything [3] but forever cursed with chaos and no form to call their own. The sons of Thed who remained faithful to the world were rewarded by the Great Spider Herself at the Dawn when she gave them their magical pipes and they have followed her ever since. The only thing they now hate more than their chaotic cousins are unwise people who compare them with each other.[4]

notes:
1 Mostali say that they aren't decended from Grandfather Mortal - but that they are formed of the Man rune that Mostal made with them in mind. 2 By either The Storm Bull or Ragnalar
3 Sandy tells a story of a Broo who mated with an iron stove 4 No Satyr will discuss their apparent similarities between Satyrs and Broos, to the point of attacking the questioner - who knows what Broos think

Hope you enjoy (if you don't just ignore - as I said I made it up)

Graeme
